And then the Laptop ran out of power, causing the last half hour or so of work to be lost. That's why you practice what you preach, Gaster! Should have listened to your own advice and gone to sleep instead of working untill you pass out.


This little comic is based on Zarla's Undertale AU Handplates; specifically the Mercyplates scenario. So, SPOILER warning if you don't know that, I suppose? Stop reading this if you don't. Or even if you don't know Undertale. Seriously. Spoilers. Bad.

So. We know that the souls of the brothers sometimes glow in unison when they are dreaming together. But what about Gaster? Surely I can't be the only one who was wondering about that. I mean, yes, the boys are artificially created but they both have a piece of Gasters soul in their own souls. Would they be able to invite him along into their dreams?
Not that Sans would like that... or Gaster, for that matter, but just theoretically speaking.

I had this idea quite a while ago but didn't have a functioning scanner then. Recently I was reminded of it once more and then decided to try my hand at it.
And oh boy... This took far longer then it had any right to. A lot of which came down to my own frustration. Drawing characters you've never drawn before in an attempt at someone else's style in comic form as the first thing you go with after not having drawn at all in months is a very, very bad plan let me tell you. More so if there's a lot of things going on that also want your attention. XD
But after about two weeks of working on this on and off it's done. Maybe it's not great, but it is what it is and I will live with it. ^^ And attempt to do better next time.
(And there will be a next time since I still have one other idea.)

The dialogue between Gaster and Papyrus was originally supposed to be longer. I completely underestimated the space I would need for it and had to cut it in half. XD' I'm definitely more used to writing stories then telling them in comic form.


Q: Where does this fit into the timeline?
A: Probably a few days after Gaster chose mercy (at some point after the Beam incident) and took them out of the lab.

Q: What are those papers that Papyrus is looking at? And what is that book that Sans is holding?
A: The boys are learning the language commonly used underground. It's something that they'll need to know, now that the Experiment was cancelled so Gaster gave them some vocabularies and stuff like that for now. They haven't really interacted with other monsters yet but they are aware that this is a skill that they have to learn if they don't want to rely on Gaster for translation all the time. Papyrus is trying really hard even though he has trouble with reading all these things. But hey, if this is the key to talking with others then he'll make sure to give his best! Sans did too before he fell asleep. After all, who's to say that Gaster won't change his mind again if the boys prove to be to much of a hassle? He's got to learn as much as he can while he has the chance, just in case things go bad.
Hm. Somehow it feels like we just saw something like that recently.

Q: Did Sans really manage to fall asleep with Gaster this close by? Wouldn't he be suspicious or weary?
A: That's something that came up in the cut dialogue. It's been a long day for the three of them. Sans eventually just passed out from exhaustion. That low stamina could only take so much. Papyrus has more energy but he is not quite at the point where he can be awake and fit for extremely long periods of time yet. And it really was a long day. He's just as tired as Sans.
But he sees Gaster still being awake and busy so he tries his best to stay up too. (He definitely got that particular bit of stubbornness from him.)

Q: Why is Gaster sitting on the couch while working? Wouldn't it make more sense if he would sit at the table?
A: The table is full with other things and Gaster didn't feel like emptying it right then. He's been using his laptop like that before, he'll manage. (Do you want some Skelefamily sleeping fluff or not? XD)

Q: What's up with the red background? Didn't you say somehting about how you were trying to emulate the style?
A: Originally it was supposed to be white, but then I realized that that wouldn't work to well with Gaster turning the lights of after both brothers are sleeping. So I went with a pseudo wallpaper wall thingy.

Q: Where's the lightswitch on the other pannels?
A: I originally didn't want to use clean cut borders but rather make each pannel look like paper that was ripped off at the edges, so you would only see it in that one pannel. In the end I didn't do that.
Q: So where IS it in the other pannels?
A: Oh my, did you hear that? I think a thunderstom is forming outside, I better post this right now and turn of my PC before anything happens! Gotta go!
